A Storied History in the Heart of East Lansing
Constructed in 1916, the Masonic Temple was designed by renowned architect Samuel Dana Butterworth and built by contractor Thomas Early and Sons. Over the years, the building has stood as a symbol of East Lansing’s growth alongside Michigan State University.
Originally home to the Masonic Lodge, the Temple faced financial difficulties, particularly during the Great Depression. In the 1980s, the Masons relocated, and the building changed hands in 1986.
In the late 1990s, Strathmore Real Estate Group acquired the Temple, rehabilitating it into residential apartments and office spaces while preserving its architectural integrity. In recognition of its historical and architectural significance, Strathmore successfully petitioned for its inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.
